Dr. Friedman is a founding member of the American College of Radiology's Committee on MRI Accreditation, and was instrumental in the development and promulgation of this program nationwide, and remains active as a site reviewer.  As a member of the Radiology Staff at Bucktown Open MRI, Bloomingdale Open MRI, Joliet Open MRI, South Suburban Open MRI of Orland, Streeterville Open MRI and Open MRI of Olympia Fields Dr. Friedman retains extensive experience in the interpretation of neurological and orthopedic MRI examinations, as well as the performance and interpretation of both high-field and open MR systems.  Dr.Friedman has limited his practice exclusively to MRI since 1987, which has subsequently developed into one of the longest continuous professional practices for MRI in the Midwest.

Dr.Friedman was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology as a James B. Angell Scholar. He attended the University of Illinois School of Medicine in Chicago where he received his M.D. in 1981. After a transitional residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in 1982, he completed a four-year residency in Diagnostic Radiology, followed by a one-year fellowship in neuroradiology, at Northwestern McGaw Medical Center in Chicago.

After completing his training, Dr. Friedman served as Director of Neuroradiology and MRI at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, followed by Director positions at Highland Park Hospital, Open MRI of Chicago, and Airlite Imaging in Elgin. In 1987, he became the Medical Director for N.E. Illinois MRI, a multi hospital consortium venture in the northwest suburbs providing high field and Open MRI services. Since 1988, Dr. Friedman has held the academic appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Northwestern University Medical School. He has authored or co-authored 11 scientific publications, and has lectured extensively on topics in the clinical applications of magnetic resonance imaging. He is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology (1986) and received a certificate of added qualification in Neuroradiology from the American Board of Radiology in 1995.
